Teaching Your Children the Great Hymns

Teaching Your Children the Great Hymns

While talking to a friend one day I expressed regret that my children didn’t learn more hymns when they were growing up.  The church we attended didn’t sing hymns very often so they weren’t exposed to them at church and I didn’t make it a point to teach them myself, so they just didn’t learn about them.  Hymns—and the history behind them—are filled with God and His words in the Bible.  The hymns I learned as a child still fill me with the awe of God, His faithfulness, His provision, protection and comfort. My friend told me of a book that is designed for children called Hymns For A Kid’s Heart.  It features 13 great hymns and gives the fascinating history behind each one.  There is also a CD that comes with it so you can listen to each hymn after you’ve learned the story behind it.  I just finished the book and thoroughly enjoyed it. This is a great book to read to your children and then play the CD for them on a regular basis.  They will be hiding God’s word in their heart as they hear these timeless songs that declare the glory of God.
